The Virginia Peer Support team is pleased to announce that they are accredited by the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Emergency Services.
The Virginia Peer Support Association (VAPSA) is a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit organization formed in 2006 and is purposed with the training, certification and maintenance of Professional Peer Supporters (PSPs) in the Commonwealth.
To date, VAPSA has trained over 500 emergency service professionals. In addition to
certification, VAPSA provides resources to the individual peer supporters and their agencies to help build and maintain viable peer support teams.
We help connect 'VAPSA' communities to one another, that was Peer Support Specialists can reach out to others in their network for support and guidance. We also provide 'model policies' for our communities to review and customize for their needs.
We offer many classes: Peer Support Professional (PSP) Level I, Level II , PSP Train the Trainer (TtT) as well as 'Agency Champion' courses. All of our courses can be taught in specific disciplines. For example we offer PSP, level I and II for Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS. We also offer a wide variety of Continuing Education opportunities to keep your PSP certification up to date.
In addition to model policies and trainer peer supporters, VAPSA is under the supervision of a Police and Emergency Services Psychologist to provide oversite and deal with issues of a clinical significance.
